The mission of Camp Horsin' Around is to provide a camp facility specifically designed and equiped to enrich the lives of children with serious, chronic illnesses and physical difficulties with these specific goals:

• to provide a camp to nurture the souls of children whose bodies have let them down
• to offer the opportunity to spend time with other children who share their experience
• to be in a place where people don't look at them differently
• to have a camping experience that gives them the chance to 'normalize' their lives
• to live, laugh, and love with others who truly understand

In mid 2002, a small group of central Kentuckians founded a non-profit (501 (c) (3)), recruited a board of directors, began seeking donations and started looking for land. The result is now a 191-acre property located in Kentucky's Boyle and Mercer Counties that will provide permanent camping facilities necessary for children whose health is compromised.   The site includes cabins, a fully-equiped medical clinic, open air pavillion for activities, a dining hall, and additional activity areas including a pool.

Children from throughout Kentucky and surrounding states with illnesses including cancer, diabetes, asthma, sickle cell anemia, kidney disease, AIDs, heart ailments or other illnesses will utilize the camp. CHA will offer a family camping center as well as support services for families. And, through collaborations with the University of Kentucky's Children's Hospital and Hospice of the Bluegrass, the camp will also offer special programs for children with obesity issues, for those who have lost a loved one to terminal illness and for siblings of ill children.
