"SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF"
amp Horsin’ Around congratulates Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry on their Humanitarian Award from the Academy of Country Music.
In its ninth year, the Humanitarian Award recognizes country music artists who serve others, have a generous spirit and help build the dreams of those in need. Iconic country music duo MONTGOMERY GENTRY have been selected for their ongoing community service and charitable giving of their time and talent.
Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry devote their time and energy into making the needs of others a priority. They are active participants in any charitable organizations they support giving their time, talent and treasure. Together, they have strongly served and supported the U.S. military and numerous charitable organizations including the TJ Martell Foundation, which Troy serves as a board member. They also provide their individual time to two deserving philanthropies. Eddie gives his support to Camp Horsin’ Around in Lexington, Ky., which provides a camp facility equipped for children with serious, chronic illnesses and physical difficulties. Troy bolsters the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Middle Tennessee.
“Giving back to the communities in which our associates and customers live and work is a core value of The Home Depot,” said Frank Bifulco, senior vice president and chief marketing officer at The Home Depot. “We’re proud to recognize Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry of Montgomery Gentry for their tireless community service and philanthropy efforts. They put the same soulful energy heard in their songs into their humanitarian activities. They are a living example of the values of charitable giving and community service shared by both The Home Depot and the Academy of Country Music.”

Accomplishments Around the Camp
The Camp had a joyous experience this past summer. We were able to have our first overnight campers. These campers were teenagers dealing with cancer. They were a great group of young people who look at life with the glass half full and live each day fully. They want all of the good times "normal kids" have and all of the experiences they can manage. We heard comments such as "this place is awesome" and "I can see the world around me". This is a testament to the value of Camp Horsin' Around.
The Dream is not Complete
The camp is well underway but not complete. We need to construct a dining hall/multipurpose building, a swimming pool, two more cabins, an office, caretaker's home, the lake and endow the camp. While this is an ambitious list we are confident we can get it done! Our camp family is large and happily it grows on a daily basis. With so many folks caring and sharing with us that old expression "many hands make light work" is certainly true.
As we continue our journey to make this camp all it can be for so many special kids we hope that you will join our family and finish the dream with us. Our goals are lofty but the rewards of helping these kids have the time of their lives with others who truly understand is the true meaning of sharing to help others.
It has been said, by a physician who cares for the children while they are at camp, "children come to camp to recharge their energy and their spirits for their continuing struggle with their illnesses and their future health". How special it is to be an enabler for these children.
Please join our family and help us finish the dream!

| Centre College Students Help Camp Horsin' Around

Give them an A for community service!!!! - Monday, August 30, 2010
On Saturday, August 28th students from Centre College came to Camp to do community service. They wielded paint brushes to varnish benches on the main pavilion, painted the entrance fence, picked up rocks and spent time weeding in front of the cabins.

We are grateful to them for sharing their Saturday morning with us!

"W e want to be part of building this wonderful camp for children right here in Kentucky." - Eddie Montgomery
Indeed Eddie Montgomery and his wife Tracy have been extremely helpful in raising funds for the camp. They graciously agreed to chair the fundraising campaign, supported two recent fundraisers - the Annual Camp Out and "Eddie Rides for the Kids". They have also recruited their friends and family to be a part of the camp family. Two very special recruits by the Montgomerys are Tommy and Gwen Mitchell of Rocky Top Furniture. The Mitchells have designed and furnished our first cabin and were instrumental in organizing the first annual "Eddie Rides for the Kids".
As neighbors of the camp, the Montgomerys have helped with oversight, mowing, and have purchased, boarded and cared for a horse named "FLASH". "FLASH" can not wait for the children to get to camp!
